Faustin Collins Timeline of Events
by Christopher A. Nordmann, PhD
Faustin Collins, son of Honore Collins and Rosette Lorence, born January 3, 1798 to Honore Collins and Rosette Lorence Faustin Collins, was the father of two children by Cesara Reabout, Dalspi and Honore. On July 10, 1828 Faustin married Jeanne/Jane Hugon in Mobile. The union produced at least ten children: Rosalia, Mathilde, Felicia, Hermina May, Hugon, Marie Odile, Clara, Victoire, Joseph Elise and Elizabeth. A founding member of Creole No. 1 Fire Company, Collins died June 24, 1857.
Sacramental registers from the Parish of the Immaculate Conception, Mobile, Alabama, reveal the names of his children and his slaves who were baptized into the Catholic faith and who received a Catholic burial. Dates of birth, baptism, death, and burial generally appear in the registers. Probate records also contain the names of his slaves. He served as godparent to other Creoles as well as to some slaves.
